MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): In Mumbai, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has approved Metro-Neo for the planned Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 in Navi Mumbai. This is a significant development because it will link the Mumbai Metro Rail network and Line 1 in Navi Mumbai.
Metro Neo is an electric trolley bus with rubber-tyre bi-articulated and an overhead traction system.
According to the officials, “CIDCO has approved the construction of Navi Mumbai Metro Lines 2, 3, and 4 with a modified mode of transport, namely MetroNeo, in place of standard gauge Metro”.
Metro Neo is an innovative transport system intended for cities with a population of up to 20 lakhs, according to CIDCO authorities. It is a seamless, quick, trustworthy, and economical mass rapid transportation system (MRTS). It will offer a travelling experience comparable to Metro systems on a global scale. Coaches on Metro Neo trains are lighter and smaller than regular Metro trains.
In addition, it is cutting-edge, reliable, energy-efficient, minimally noisy, and environmentally friendly technology.
As per the officials, the buses will have air conditioning, an automatic door-closing system, level boarding, plush seats, passenger announcements, and an information system with an electronic display.
The Commission of Railway Safety (CMRS) has permitted Navi Mumbai’s Line 1 Metro Rail to begin commercial operation. The 11.1 km elevated corridor between Belapur and Pendhar features stations Belapur, Sector-7 Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Sector 11 Kharghar, Sector 14 Kharghar, Central Park, Pethapada, Sector 34 Kharghar, Panchnand, and Pendhar Terminal.
Additionally, Line 1 will have a vehicle maintenance depot at Taloja, two traction substations at Panchanand and Kharghar, and more.
