AGRA (Metro Rail News): Agra’s Metro Rail Project has reached another milestone with the achievement of the first breakthrough at Agra Fort Metro Station by the Agra Metro TBM named ‘Ganga’. The construction work for the underground section of the project is progressing rapidly, and this breakthrough is a major step towards completing the underground section.
The construction of underground stations is already in full swing, and the tunnel work is being carried out using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM). MD UPMRC, Shri Sushil Kumar, expressed the importance of this achievement, stating that the completion of the first tunnel section out of three is an important milestone. The aim is to start metro operations six months ahead of schedule, in March 2024 instead of the original deadline of August 2024. The three elevated stations and the train depot are nearly ready, and the testing and commissioning of three trains are currently underway at the high-speed test track in the train depot.
TBM breakthroughs are highly challenging and require the utmost precision and accuracy in a metro project. UPMRC has a track record of completing projects ahead of schedule, as seen in Lucknow and Kanpur, and is continuing this legacy in Agra as well.
After completing its breakthrough at Agra Fort Metro Station, the TBM will continue to construct the tunnel until the Taj Mahal Metro Station.
