Namma Metro is Bengaluru’s rapid transit system, run by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). It was the first metro in South India when it opened in 2011, and it has since become a daily lifeline in a city where road traffic is a constant struggle. The network keeps expanding as Bengaluru grows outward.
The core of the system is the Purple Line running east to west and the Green Line running north to south, crossing at the Nadaprabhu Kempegowda interchange in the city centre. Phase 2 has stretched both lines further into the suburbs, and new corridors are under construction, including the Yellow Line toward Electronics City and the lines that will carry the network to Kempegowda International Airport.
BMRCL builds and runs Namma Metro. Its current work spans Phase 2 extensions and Phase 2A and 2B, which together add the airport link and fresh corridors across the fast-growing outer city. Station openings, rolling-stock deliveries and contract awards arrive regularly as construction continues.
