New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is planning to set up token counters outside the station in a bid to decongest the inter-change stop.

The New Delhi station not only has a huge rush of passengers using the railway station, but also serves as an inter-change for those who want to board the Airport Express Metro Line.

As a result, the station witnesses a footfall of over one lakh, many of whom do not even board the metro but use the station as a resting point in-between trains. The ridership at the station is around 55,000.

As a crowd control measure, the DMRC has come up with a proposal to install up to 30 additional ticket counters outside the station premises. “The exact location of the counters will depend upon the space provided by railway authorities. We are in touch with them to get some space at ground level allocated to the DMRC,” said a metro official.
