Patna: Detailed Project Report (DPR) of Rs 12,000-crore has been prepared for the Patna Metro Rail which will help ease traffic congestion in the state capital having a population of about 22 lakh. This was stated by chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi on Wednesday. He was inaugurating a global investors’ meet for the Metro project. At least 40 national and international investors took part in the deliberations with Manjhi pledging to fulfil the dream of predecessor Nitish Kumar.

“Metro Rail in Patna was Nitish ji’s dream. Its work began in 2013 and I will do everything needed to complete it,” the CM said, assuring the investors that stumbling blocks won’t be allowed to come in the way of the project’s execution.

The DPR has been prepared by RITES and the work of the first phase is proposed to commence in 2016. The expected time for completion of the project is five years. The 27.88km Metro Rail project from Danapur to Mithapur (east-west corridor) and Patna Junction to ISBT (north-south corridor) will have an underground stretch of over 15km and elevated stretch of over 12km. The DPR proposes three-coach Metro run from 5am to midnight with the fare being anything between Rs 12 and Rs 28 in the initial years.

The east-west corridor will have 13 stations, including Saguna Mor, Raja Bazar, J D Women’s College, Raj Bhawan, High Court and Income Tax Roundabout, while north-south corridor will have 12 stations, including Patna Junction, Dak Bungalow, Gandhi Maidan, PMCH, Patna University, Premchand Rangshala, Rajendra Nagar, NMCH and Mahatma Gandhi Setu.
