Hyderabad Metro

Operational Operator: L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad (HMRL) Official site ↗

Hyderabad Metro is the rapid transit system serving Telangana’s capital, built on one of the largest public-private metro projects anywhere in the world. Operated by L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad, it opened in 2017 and runs across the city on three elevated corridors that carry a steady share of Hyderabad’s daily commute.

The network

The system spans about 69 km on three corridors, the Red Line, the Blue Line and the Green Line, meeting at interchange stations in the central city. Every corridor runs elevated, threading above some of Hyderabad’s busiest roads, and the stations were built with large commercial developments attached to help fund the project. The design leans heavily on transit-oriented development along the alignment.

Operator and what comes next

L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad runs the system under a public-private partnership with the state government. Attention has now turned to Phase 2, a set of extensions and new corridors, including a planned link toward Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. Approvals, tenders and alignment decisions keep moving as the next phase takes shape.
