Patna, India (Metro Rail News): Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) will provide funds for the construction of corridors 1 and 2 of the Patna Metro. Corridor one (17.9 Km) runs from Danapur to Khemnichak, and Corridor two (14.5 Km) runs from Patna Junction to ISBT via Gandhi Maidan.

Patna Metro Rail Corporation has informed that the construction work will start by next month.

The officials from JICA and PMRC held several meetings in November on the issue of land acquisition. As a result, PMRC confirmed that the JICA delegation was assured that all the obstacles in the land acquisition were also cleared. Moreover, the company is likely to submit its final report and the statement of issuing loan Rs. 8,019.4 crore by the end of next month.

Durga Shankar Mishra, Secretary of, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, assured the Bihar government that the Patna metro project would not face any financial delays. So far, the Central Government has given Rs. Four hundred twenty-four crores for the project. The Central and State government will bear 20 % of the project’s expenses, and JICA will bear the rest 60%.

The DM of Patna, Chandrashekhar Singh, has ordered the land acquisition officer to settle all the land issues and objections as soon as possible. The landowners at Ranipur and Pahadi area in Ramachak Baraiya are creating troubles, and the state government has already sanctioned Rs.1000 Crore for the land acquisition. The corridor between Malachi Pakhri and ISBT is the priority corridor, and around 274 working piles have been cast while 14 pile caps have already been created. According to the official statement, work is progressing between Malachi Pakri and Bypass Road and construction is also started from Rajendra Nagar to Khemnichak. The expected cost for the priority corridor is around Rs.552 crore and will take 30 months for completion. It includes five elevated stations like New Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhutnath, Khemnichak, Malachi Pakri.

The other regional banks like European Bank and Asian Development Bank also show their interest in providing loans to Patna Metro Rail Project. The company has also sent a proposal of extending the financial support of more than Rs.8000 crore for the project. But PMRC has already signed MOU with JICA to construct both corridors.
