KOCHI (Metro Rail News): Kochi Metro Rail Ltd has organised “Metro Cyclothon-2021” on the Republic day, the 26th January 2021, in Kochi. The theme for this event was “HEALTHY MOBILITY FOR HEALTHY LIFE”. Earlier overwhelming response was received during the registrations.
The event, Metro Cyclothon 2021 was flagged off by Advocate M.Anil Kumar, Mayor of Kochi Municipal Corporation at 06:45 Hrs on 26th Jan 2021, in the presence of Shri.Hibi Eden, Member of Parliament, Ernakulam, Shri.PT Thomas, MLA,, Shri. T.J Vinod, MLA, shro Salim Chairman GCDA, Shri. Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS, MD KMRL, Shri. Tom Jose, Chairman, KSINC, Shri. K.Mahesh Kumar IPS, DIG of Police, Shri. Jafar Malik IAS, CEO CSML and Shri. Harris Rasheed, Sub-Collector, Fort Kochi. The event invoked exemplary response from the public with large participation. The event was organised to encourage healthy, fit and sustainable lifestyle while making the sport of cycling popular amongst the Kochiites. The event was organized under the Campaign banner of HAEAL pharma, ‘Healthy Mobility for Healthy Life’ in association with Rajagiri Hospitals.
“More than 700 cycling enthusiasts including Shri.Hibi Eden, Honourable Member of Parliament, Ernakulam, Shri. Alkesh Kumar Sharma IAS, MD KMRL, Shri. Tom Jose, Chairman, KSINC, Shri. K.Mahesh Kumar IPS, DIG of Police, Shri. Jafar Malik IAS, CEO CSML and Shri. Harris Rasheed, Sub-Collector, Ernakulam took part in the 12- km Cyclothon”, the KMRL said in a statement.
A large number of youngsters and children (above the age of 10), irrespective of gender, participated in the Cyclothon. The event also got participation from members of various cycling clubs in the city and outside.
Mayor of Kochi addressed the gathering prior to flagging off. “This event is a message to the city of Kochi, that as we all stand together in this dais, we will stand for development of Kochi” Said Adv. Anil Kumar, Mayor of Kochi.
“Kochi is pedalling towards a cultural transition into green transport. Very soon we all be living in a city where pedestrian rights and cycling rights are given importance as in other parts of the world.”-Said Shri.Hibi Eden, member of Parliament.
Cine Actor Shri Unni Mukundan administered the Oath of Healthy life to the participants. Speaking at the occasion, Shri. Unni Mukundan, Cine Actor said “I am happy to be a part of this noble initiative by Kochi Metro Rail Limited. Such initiatives help in creating awareness and encourage people to understand the importance of using healthy and eco-friendly modes of transportation in our daily life.”
Managing Director, Kochi Metro welcomed the gathering. “This has been probably one of the largest participation in a Cyclothon in South India and we convey the message that we have to use more public transport and non motorised transport to make this city a healthy city “ added Shri. Sixteen participants of the Cyclothon 2021 were selected through draw of lots and they were given prizes including six high quality hybrid cycles during the event.
