Kochi Water Metro to begin full-fledged operations soon

KOCHI (Metro Rail News): Kochi has received its second boat and three more will reach soon, therefore, the Water Metro can begin its operations in Kochi from September which also will be a Onam gift to the people of the city.

The 23 boats for the Water Metro project are being built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL). According to a source in CSL, The remaining three boats for the first phase will be handed over by the end of July.

The construction of the terminals for the water metro at Vypeen, Bolgatty, High Court, South Chittor and Cheranalloor will be completed soon and the water metro will operate first on this route. “We are trying to start services by Onam,” said Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) MD Loknath Behera.

According to a source, the work on the Kochi water metro is almost in the final stage. Work has already been completed on the terminals at Kakkanad, Vyttila and Eloor.

On 15 February 2021 Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated its first route between Vytilla and InfoPark constructed under Phase I of the project.
