Maharashtra to get Vande Bharat trains soon, to run on Mumbai-Pune route

Presently the fastest train which runs along the route is Deccan Queen which takes 3 hours and 10 minutes.

MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): Maharashtra is going to get its first Vande Bharat trains soon meanwhile Mumbai and Pune has been finalised as one of the routes. These new trains are expected to start operations by 15th August this year and the travelling time between Mumbai and Pune route will be reduced to 2.5 hours.

Presently the fastest train which runs along the route is Deccan Queen which takes 3 hours and 10 minutes. According to an official the decision to introduce Vande Bharat Train was taken as the trains have chair cars and can be operated smoothly on the Mumbai-Pune route.

The railway ministry has decided to introduce phase 2 of Vande Bharat trains which will come with AC sleeper facilities in 2023. These trains are expected to be introduced between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai and Firozpur Cantonment railway station in Punjab.

The railway ministry had sent a letter to zonal railways in May, stating that the Wadi Bunder railway yard at Mazgaon and Jogeshwari will be used to make depots for the maintenance. Whereas the Central and Western Railways had been asked to inspect the locations and plan for the development of maintenance infrastructure of the Vande Bharat trains.
