GHAZIABAD (Metro Rail News): Work on a multi-level parking near the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station and the upcoming Ghaziabad RRTS station has started. The parking will ease the problems of traffic on one of the busiest stretch in the city.

The UP Jal Nigam officials who are executing the project informed that the multi-level parking is likely to be ready for use in the next 18 months. “A piece of land, measuring 5,762 sqm, has been handed to us. We have already started the plinth work,” said a Jal Nigam official. “We have set an October 2023 deadline for the parking project. Hopefully, it will be over before that,” the official added.

This multi-level parking is being funded by the state government under the smart city project and is going to cost Rs 41.2 crore. “It will be a 5-storey parking facility and have the capacity to accommodate 200 four-wheelers and 542 two-wheelers at a time,” the official said. “The Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station, which is close to the parking project, will directly benefit from it. Its utility will grow manifold when the 17km priority section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS starts to function by the middle of next year”, the official added.

“The Meerut tri-section, where the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda metro station is located, is one of the busiest areas of the city and space crunch only adds to the parking woes. That will only worsen after the Ghaziabad RRTS corridor becomes operational next year,” said a Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation official. “The multi-level parking near Red Mall will be very close to the metro and the RRTS stations. That is why it has been planned there. The project report has been approved by the state government and the work has started too. Once ready, the parking lot will prove to be a respite for the commuters. In the absence of proper facilities, people are forced to park their vehicles along the roads or pavements, which often leads to snarls in the area,” the official added.
