Pune Metro is the rapid transit system serving Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, built and run by Maha Metro. Its first sections opened in 2022, giving the city its first modern rail-based transit and a faster way through corridors that road traffic had choked for years.
The system is built around two lines, the Purple Line and the Aqua Line, which cross the city and meet the fast-growing industrial belt of Pimpri-Chinchwad. The corridors mix elevated and underground sections, with the central stretch running below the old city. A third line being developed on a public-private model will extend the reach further into the metropolitan area.
Maha Metro, the agency that also delivered Nagpur’s metro, builds and runs Pune Metro. Work continues on extensions and the additional corridor, with station openings and contract awards arriving as construction moves ahead.
