Pune Metro is delivered by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) for its first two lines, with a third corridor built on a public-private partnership under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The Purple and Aqua lines form an operational cross through the city, linking Pimpri-Chinchwad, the central city and the eastern suburbs.
The Line 3 Hinjawadi–Civil Court corridor, serving Pune’s major IT hub on a PPP basis, is the network’s most closely watched addition, while extensions of the Purple Line toward Nigdi and Katraj push the system further into the metropolitan region.
Pune shows how a single city can run parallel delivery models – a government SPV for two lines and a PPP concession for a third – within one integrated network. That hybrid makes it a useful comparison point for how India blends public and private financing in a mid-sized metro, and how the IT-corridor ridership case plays out on a privately financed line.
