BEML Limited, a ‘Schedule-A’ company, is critical to India’s core sectors of defense, rail, power, mining, and infrastructure. The company began with a small turnover of Rs.5 crore in 1965 and has grown to a turnover of more than Rs.3,500 crores today, thanks to its diverse business portfolio. BEML Limited’s Rail Coach Factory in Bangalore, India, was the country’s first all-steel integrated rail coach factory, which opened in 1948. It was founded with the help and technological know-how of MAN, Federal Republic of Germany. This factory was built to produce passenger rail coaches (of broad gauge) for Indian Railways in-house.

On May 11, 1964, Hindustan Aircraft Limited (now M/s. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited) handed over administrative control of the factory to BEML Limited (formerly known as Bharat Earth Movers Limited).

BEML has delivered over 1,100 metro cars to different projects in India to date. Customers have praised BEML’s achievements in successfully completing the indigenization of rolling stock and expanding its manufacturing facilities.

BEML extended its position in the Metro Sector, commanding a strong market share in India, thanks to its expertise in the manufacture, integration, and testing of Metro Cars. This Rail Coach Factory has produced and supplied over 17,000 mainline passenger coaches of different types for Indian Railways’ long-distance mainline routes since its inception.
