Before this, the CMRL app uses to give information regarding the daily train timetable. The distance covered, cost of journey and names of the station can be known through this App.  However, commuters had frequent problems with the timings as the trains would come 10 minutes after the app alerted the commuters. The app has updated itself to offer real-time information on trains which will help to resolve commuter’s day to day issue.

A metro official said that now, the app will offer real-time information including delays, so that commuters can plan their journey accordingly.

In May 2017 the app was introduced back and was updated periodically. But this latest update will highly facilitate the commuters, now will no longer have to wait in long queues to recharge their smart cards but can do so through the app. However, passengers need to swipe their card at the metro station to update their card balance before boarding the train.

The app also contains special features which are like with a travel planner, which will guide the commuter through the different stations along the route. It will also provide information to various feeder services such as which includes buses, cabs and share autos near metro services and details on where they are operating.

For the commutes that traveled on suburban trains, Chennai MRTS have another app that will provide the timings of the various Chennai suburban trains.
