PUNE (Metro Rail News): In a move ahead in manufacturing indigenous metro coaches, a Kolkata based firm Titagarh Firema has become the first Indian firm which is going to manufacture aluminium-bodied coaches. It is supposed to supply the first fleet of these coaches to Pune Metro.

In a tweet, Secretary of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Durga Shankar Mishra said, ” In a huge leap towards Atmanirbhar Bharat, Titagarh Firema, a firm based in Kolkata, is the first Indian company, which will manufacture aluminium bodied metro coaches for Pune Metro. These coaches are the lightest in India so far with 15.5 tonnes axle load”.

“This will enable lower infra cost & higher energy efficiency. These coaches are being manufactured & first 3 will be delivered by June 2021. Commencing operation of Metro will provide Ease of Living to citizens. This is a huge step towards Make In India and Atmanirbhar Bharat”, Mr. Mishra said in a series of tweets as the PM stressed these two things in his independence day speech at Red Fort.

MoHUA’s Secretary Mr. Durga Shankar Mishra also unveiled the final design of Pune Metro’s 34 Titagarh train-sets. He emphasized the role of Indian firms in moving forward to achieve higher efficiency in the field of metro project’s development. He wrote, ” Best wishes to Maha Metro & Titagarh Firema” in a series of tweets.

  1. Thank god, it’s not made in China. I wish Delhi metro coaches would also have been made in India.
