National Common Mobility Card | One card for Metro, Bus, Toll Payment, Parking across the country

New Delhi:  Now, Toll tax and parking charges also included in the facilities of single card payment, which was earlier given for the means of public transport, including Metro rail, local bus, auto taxi etc., in all over the metropolitan cities of India. Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs asked all the agencies to link all the online payment services of toll tax and parking which get included under National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).

Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affair  Hardeep Singh Puri in review meeting, asked the concerned authorities to link the card to the payment service as soon as possible.

A senior official of the Ministry attached to the project said that in the initial phase, the use of NCMC will be used in all Smart Cities connected with Metro Rail projects. As a pilot project, the rent is currently being paid by the same card in the Metro Rail and local bus in Delhi and Kochi for metro services and for bus services in Kochi.

The official said that the preparation of National Common Mobility Card Service at the national level has been completed cards,  that can be used in all cities are also ready. Only toll plaza and parking operations are awaiting agencies to link it to its online payment service.

The objective of the project is to equip NCMC in the future as a debit card. This will allow cardholders to pay rent, toll tax, parking and general retail purchases of public transport instruments.

It is to be noted that on the basis of the report of the Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Additional Secretary of the Ministry to implement the NCMC, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) was given responsibilities to develop a single payment card in the country for the local transport services.  Apart from this, public sector software company Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) was asked to develop automated system of rent collection of metro rail across the country.

In addition to Delhi and Kochi, the use of NCMC has been approved by the local bus and metro authorities in Mumbai, Nagpur, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad in addition to the system developed by NPCI and C-DAC. The Ministry later decided to add toll, parking and nominal purchase payment through this card.

To implement this, a committee of experts from the National Information Center (NIC), CDAC, NPCI, Bureau of Indian Standards and the Ministry of Finance suggested the adoption of the ‘EMV open Loop Card’ in India by studying the model of common card have given. The official said that the card has been prepared while deciding the functioning of the NCMC based on the recommendations of the committee. In the future it will be an ambitious plan to implement it in all the big cities of the country.
