CMRL Reinvites Bids for Chennai Metro Phase 2’s 96 Coach Contract

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) has invited bids for procuring 32 new train sets for the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase 2 project under package ARE04A.

Package ARE04A 

It entails 2.9 m wide coaches to be operated on standard gauge tracks. These will be less wider than Chennai Metro’s earlier rolling stock. These would be in DMC+TC+DMC, where DMC = Driving Motor Car and TC = Trailer Car.

Specifications of the Tender 

The specifications of the tender are: 

Estimate: N/A

Contract Period: 1300 days + 730 days (DNP) + 15 Years (CMC)

Pre-Bid Meeting: March 15, 2024 at 11 am

Bid Submission Deadline: May 15, 2024 at 3 PM

Technical Bid Opening: May 16, 2024 at 3 PM

Scope of the Contract 

The contract scope entails designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, commissioning, and training Personnel and a Comprehensive Maintenance Contract for Fifteen (15) years of Standard Gauge Metro Rolling Stock (Electric Multiple Units). 

Lines remain Undisclosed 

These trains have not been assigned to any specific line or corridor within the project. They will be stored at depots located in Madhavaram (for lines 3 & 5), Semmancheri (for Line-3), or Poonamalee (for Line-4).

Delivery timeline 

The winning party must produce, conduct trials, and transport the initial 3-coach prototype train within 630 days (equivalent to 1.7 years) from the ‘Commencement Date’ specified in the contract. Subsequently, the following six trains must be completed within 840 days, the next six within 900 days, the next six within 960 days, the next six within 1020 days, and the final seven within 1090 days (equivalent to 3 years) from the ‘Commencement Date’.

Chennai Metro, Phase 02 

Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Project pitches for a 118.9 km Network consisting of 3 corridors, namely: 

  1. Corridor 3: Madhavaram to SIPCOT (45.8 Km)
  2. Corridor 4: Lighthouse to Poonamalle Bypass (26.1 Km)
  3. Corridor 5: Madhavaram to Sholinganallur (47 Km)
