DELHI (Metro Rail News): On Wednesday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) awarded two major civil construction contracts for Patna Metro’s Phase 1 project to Larsen & Toubro and YFC – MCL JV.

PC-03: Larsen & Toubro was awarded for the 8-kilometre Rajendra Nagar – Patna Junction Railway Station stretch of Line-2, including six underground stations.

PC-04: Awarded to YFC – MCL JV for the 4 km Danapur – Patliputra Ramp and 4 km Mithapur Ramp – Khemni Chak elevated stations on Line-1. Financial bids for both packages (PC03 & PC04) were opened in July 2021, and the issuance of LOAs is a good indication that a basic loan agreement has been achieved with JICA – the project’s chief lender.

Package PC-03: L&T

  • DMRC’s Estimate: Rs. 1958.81 crore
  • L&T’s Bid & Final Contract Value: Rs. 1989 crore
  • Completion Period / Deadline: 42 months

This 8-kilometre portion of the 14.05-kilometre Line-2 will connect a ramp near Rajendra Nagar with Patna Junction Railway Station through twin tunnels and six underground stations. A minimum of four tunnel boring machines will be required of L&T. (TBMs). After NCC constructs Package PC-01, this is the second and final civil package of Line-2.

Package PC-04: YFC – MCL JV

  • DMRC’s Estimate: Rs. 527.62 crore
  • YFC – MCL’s Bid: Rs. 553.49 crore
  • Final Contract Value: Rs. 553.50 crore
  • Completion Period / Deadline: 36 months

The 16.86-kilometre Line-1 package has two disjointed elevated sections on either side, connecting Danapur Cantonment and Khemni Chak via 14 stations.

The first is a roughly 4-kilometre section with four stations connecting Danapur to Patliputra Ramp. The second is a 4-kilometre section with three stations connecting Mithapur Ramp to Khemni Chak Station, which will allow users to transfer to the 14.05-kilometre Line-2 (Patna Junction Railway Station – New ISBT).

With these contracts in place, we anticipate that preliminary groundwork will begin in February, followed by full-fledged construction in Q2 2022. Tender notices for Line-1’s roughly 8-kilometre subterranean stretch between Patlipura Ramp and Mithapur Ramp are pending. At Rukanpura, Raja Bazar, Patna Zoo (previously JD Women’s College), Vikas Bhawan (formerly Raj Bhavan), Vidyut Bhawan, and Patna Junction, there will be six stations (interchange).
