Noida: The officials of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) are working to create the last-mile connectivity for its under-construction 29-km Noida-Greater Noida Metro. Managing Director Santosh Yadav said they were working on developing a support system within 1.5 km of stations to provide connectivity to Metro commuters.

Speaking to Media, Yadav said though the Metro provides a safe, efficient and comfortable journey, the trouble begins once you step out of the stations. “Not much thought has gone behind providing an equally dependable support system that would help commuters reach the Metro station from their homes and offices and vice versa,” he said.

“NMRC has decided to address the issue. We have formed a team to study a 1.5 km area in the vicinity of all 21 stations. Once we have the report in the next 4-5 months, we will get the authorities to develop facilities. We promise to change the way people travel so that Metro stations are easily accessible from homes, hospitals, institutes and shopping centres,” he said.

Besides surveying the demand and supply around a particular station, Yadav said the team will study the need for footpaths, auto and bus bays, cycle tracks and walk ways. “We will create an atmosphere for the commuters so that they can walk, cycle to their homes, offices and markets. Bicycles and pedestrians also need to be promoted and supported with conducive infrastructure to complement Metro rail and that is part of our priority.”
Meanwhile, officials of the three authorities of Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway met to discuss bylaws for regulating the controlled construction of the Metro route. A committee headed by additional CEO, Noida Authority, P K Agarwal, formed to finalise the bylaws, met on Friday. “These bylaws have been drafted and will be taken to the joint board meeting likely to be held on June 9 for approval,” said P C Gupta, ACEO, Greater Noida Authority.
