RRTS trial run for priority section to begin in December

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): Vinay Kumar Singh, managing director of National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), said on November 11 that trial runs on the 17 km priority corridor of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), a rail-based high-speed corridor, between Duhai depot and Sahibabad, both in Uttar Pradesh, are anticipated to start from December 1.

The RRTS, which intends to connect various areas of the extended NCR, is being implemented by NCRTC, a joint venture between the Union government and the governments of Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh.

According to Singh, RRTS station construction is progressing quickly, and those in Delhi—including Anand Vihar, New Ashok Nagar, and Sarai Kale Khan—will be ready in 2024.

On November 11, Singh inspected under construction corridor and spoke with the media in detail about the strategies and methods used to establish the RRTS corridor.

The NCRTC is building India’s first RRTS, which will initially consist of three corridors, starting with the 82-km link that connects Delhi and Meerut via Ghaziabad.

The 17-kilometre priority segment between Sahibabad and Duhai is expected to be operational by March 2024 and the entire route by 2025.

Alstom India delivered the first train set of this high-speed rail system to NCRTC at its production facility in Savli, in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, in May of this year.

“We are planning to start the trial of rolling stock (RRTS trains) on the priority corridor between Duhai and Sahibabad from December 1. We are making all necessary preparations in this regard. Construction activities are in full swing and we hope to complete the construction of the Delhi side of RRTS stations such as Anand Vihar, New Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan in 2024,” Singh said.

“Here at Anand Vihar RRTS station we are doing multimodal integration on a big scale. We are connecting RRTS with two bus stations, two metro lines and one national railway station in a way that we can segregate pedestrian traffic without causing them any inconvenience. There should be no conflicts between different modes of transport,” Singh said.

The RRTS corridor would be 82.15 km long, including 68 km in Uttar Pradesh and 14 km in Delhi. Of that distance, 70 km will be elevated and 12 km underground.
