VNC-KEC JV bags contract to supply HHR for Chennai metro Phase 2

CHENNAI (Metro Rail News): CMRL has awarded a contract to JV venture of KEC International Ltd. and Vijay Nirman Company to supply head-hardened rails for Corridor 5 (Madhavaram Milk Colony to Sholinganallur) of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2 on December 30, 2022. CMRL has issued a contract order (letter of acceptance) worth Rs 206.64 crore to them.

The project’s scope of work comprises the installation of ballastless tracks and the provision of head-hardened rails, turnouts, and fasteners in 16 metro stations (including CMBT, Annanagar KV Metro, Thirumangalam Junction Metro, Anna Nagar West Metro, Retteri Junction Metro, Shastri Nagar Metro, Madhavaram Bus Terminal Metro, Velmurugan Nagar Metro, Manchambakkam Metro and Assisi Nagar Metro are Elevated Metro Stations and Villivakkam MTH Road Metro, Villivakkam Bus Terminal Metro, Villivakkam Metro, Srinivasa Nagar Metro Kolathur Junction Metro and Madhavaram Depot Metro are Underground Metro Stations) of Chennai Metro Phase 2.

In January 2022, a tender notice for the work mentioned above (contract package CP18B ATW-12/2022) was issued with an estimated contract value of Rs 194 crore. Financial bids were opened on August 20, 2022, and technical bids were opened in June 2022.

Several representatives from Chennai Metro Rail Ltd, KEC International Ltd, and the Vijay Nirman Company, including T. Archunan (Director/Projects), S. Ashok Kumar, CCM (T&EC), Livingstone, CGM (PP&D), Smt. Rekha Prakash, CCM (PD), Gurunath Reddy, ACM (CP), Sivaguru, Project Manager, and Praveen Coel (Director, KEC International) were present during the signing of the contract.

Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro’s Corridor 5 (Red Line) would have 48 stations connecting Madhavaram Milk Colony and Sholinganallur. Forty-one are elevated, 6 are underground, and 1 is at grade.
