MUMBAI (Metro Rail News): The workers From J Kumar Infraprojects today erected the first pier cap using its new 29.5-meter tall straddle carrier for Mumbai Metro’s 15.18 km Line-6 (Pink Line) which will connect Swami Samarth Nagar in Lokhandwala Complex with Vikhroli through 13 elevated stations.
J Kumar is constructing civil packages BC-01R1 (IIT Powai – Vikhroli, 4.771 km) and BC-03 (Swami Samarth Nagar – Shyam Nagar, 6.079 km), and this straddle carrier has exclusively been deployed on BC-03, on the western end of the line.
This is the first straddle carrier to be used in India for a metro project and has a maximum capacity of lifting 155 tons. This is not the first pier cap of the line though. Both BC-01R1 and BC-03 this year moved on to the U-girder launching stage. BC-03’s 1st U-girder was launched in May and BC-01R1’s was launched in October. Package BC-02R’s first pier cap was just launched by MBZ-EIIL JV in November.
This type of construction equipment is generally used at shipping ports and large construction yards. It is being used in this project which will help it get complete on time.
