DMRC encourage people to use metro if necessary

NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): In an attempt to limit the usage of the Delhi transport lifeline, on Thursday Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) decided to regulate its services from Friday to discourage crowding at metro stations and trains in concerning of the coronavirus outbreak. They encouraged people to use its services for necessary travel only and declared a series regarding limit the number of passengers.

The trains would skip crowded stations frequency of the metros would be modified there would be random thermal scanning of commuters, people who have a fever would be referred for a medical test and users would be prohibited from standing inside the trains. The measures would be implemented from Friday.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation officials stated that the decision to reduce its service had been taken to prevent the transmission of the contagious disease. The Metro records more than sixty lakh commuter journeys regularly.

Intimating the Metro users to keep at least 1-metre distance from their co-passengers, executive director corporate communication DMRC, Anuj Dayal said that the Standing in the trains is not allowed and commuters should ensure alternate seats are left vacant. Trains may not stop at congested metro stations, like less than the normal distance of single metre between commuters.”

Meanwhile, in the day Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal had told no decision had been taken to slash the train frequency in the metro stations. While discussing a press conference on Coronavirus, Kejriwal stated We had reviewed it if we reduce the frequency it will lead to crowding and other transportation. We don’t want to decrease the frequency but want fewer commuters to travel.

Although no decision had been taken to reduce trips Dayal said, The frequency might be altered depending on the exigencies of the condition. With above 350 trains, the Metro train runs approximately 5,000 train trips every day.
