NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): PM Narendra Modi today extended the nationwide lockdown till May 3. In his address to the nation this morning, PM Modi said in some areas which are outside of Covid-19 hotspots, some conditional relaxations to resume important activities could be given after April 20. Some state governments like Punjab, Odisha, Telangana and Tamil Nadu have already extended the lockdown on their own. Indian Railways Ministry decided that the Railways would continue to keep passenger train operations suspended till 3rd of May.
“In an extension of the actions taken in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown, it has been finalised that every passenger train services on Indian Railways along with premium trains, passenger trains, mail/express trains, suburban trains, KMRL, Konkan Railway etc will remain suspended till May 3, 2020,” Executive Director (I&P), Ministry of Railways, Rajesh Dutt Bajpai, announced in a statement.
The Railway Ministry has taken this decision after PM Narendra Modi stated the extension of the lockdown till 3rd of May. To assure the necessary supplies in different parts of the country, movement of goods & parcel trains would remain to continue according to the statement.
All the counters for booking of railway journey tickets for reserved or unreserved travel at the railway stations and outside of the railway station premises will still be closed 3rd of May 2020,” the official stated in the statement. Earlier, all the commuter services had been discontinued till the 14th of April.
