KMRL begins rainwater harvesting project in stations

It is expected that 420 lakh litres of water can be collected in 22 metro stations in a year.

KOCHI (Metro Rail News): The Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) commenced the rainwater harvesting system at metro stations. High Court judge Justice Devan Ramachandran inaugurated the rainwater harvesting system at Companypadi metro station on Friday.

“The rainwater harvesting project of the KMRL will be beneficial for the public. There are many people who struggle to get freshwater and we have to prioritize water and nature conservation activities”, Said Justice Devan Ramachandran at the time of inauguration.

KMRL Managing Director Alkesh Kumar Sharma said that rainwater harvesting projects will be implemented in stations. It is expected that 420 lakh litres of water can be collected in 22 metro stations in a year.

The rainwater harvesting project is being implemented with the technical support of SCMS Water Institute. SCMS Group of Institutions vice chairperson Pramod Thevannur attended the event.
