Kolkata: In view the coming festive season, the Metro Railway authority launched a mobile app on Tuesday to help commuters by providing train timings, nearest station, locality and places of interest in the vicinity of the a particular station.

The app also provides passengers with fare chart, route map and smart card details.
Launching the app, A K Kapoor, General manager, Metro Rail, said that soon commuters will get free 4G Wi-Fi facility at all Metro stations. Currently this facility is only available at Maidan and Park Street stations. As many as 570 trains are being run currently to tackle the pre-puja rush, Metro authorities said, adding that during pujas, it will run 738 trains, the highest ever service provided in the city which is 16 per cent higher than last year’s figure. Trains will ply between 2 pm and 4 am during pujas, from 19 October to 23 October.
A Train Arrival Display System (TADS) will also be installed at five stations, which will display the time left for arrival of the next train. Additional RPF personnel will be deployed at the Metro stations during pujas.
