NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News): National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) sets up the first Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at Sahibabad’s Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) station. Positioned strategically at Gate No. 1, this facility is designed to accommodate the diverse charging needs of various electric vehicle models.

The charging station has three slow charging units, each offering 3.3 kW power and a fast charging unit that delivers 30 kW, ensuring that commuters can quickly and efficiently power their vehicles. The inclusion of both slow and fast charging options caters to different user needs and vehicle specifications.

Electric vehicle owners can access the charging services through a dedicated mobile application to facilitate ease of use. This app allows users to monitor their electricity consumption in real-time and handle payments electronically, simplifying the process and enhancing user convenience.

The NCRTC highlighted that this initiative is a crucial part of their comprehensive strategy to ensure seamless last-mile connectivity for RRTS passengers. Commuters can now enjoy the convenience of charging their electric vehicles within approximately one hour using the fast charging option or opt for a slower charge, depending on their time and needs.

Looking ahead, the NCRTC plans to expand these facilities to other operational RRTS stations, including key locations such as Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North. This expansion will serve daily commuters and local residents, significantly enhancing the accessibility and utility of the RRTS network.

Further Goal of NCRTC

In addition to promoting electric mobility, the NCRTC is committed to increasing its use of renewable energy. As part of the National Solar Mission, the corporation has implemented a solar policy in 2021, aiming to cover 70% of the total energy requirements of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor through solar power. Plans include installing solar panels at all elevated stations and depots to generate approximately 11 MW peak of in-house solar power, primarily for non-traction purposes over the next five years.
