NEW DELHI (Metro Rail News):  The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has submitted the revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the metro link between Sector 62 and Sahibabad to the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA).

Cost Escalation

Among the revisions made in the DPR, the most significant one is the escalation in the cumulative total cost of the project. The cost has risen from ₹1,517 crore to ₹1,873.31 crore, marking an increase of approximately ₹356 crore.

Land Requirement

The updated DPR indicates that the construction of the proposed Metro link will necessitate 7,690.10 square meters of private land and 19,001.2 square meters of government land.

Stations

Within the revised report, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has proposed plans for five stations along the 5.017km link. These stations are planned to be situated at Vaibhav Khand, near DPS Indirapuram; Shakti Khand; Vasundhara Sector 7; and Sahibabad.

Further Process

The revised DPR will now be sent to the board and later to the state government for approval. The revised DPR has also suggested a funding pattern of 20% and 80% for the central and state governments, respectively. The final funding pattern will be decided by the state government after careful consideration of the project specifics.

 GDA’s State

GDA is currently facing a fund crunch and has requested the state government to consider sharing the cost with a few other agencies, besides UP Awas Vikas & GDA.

 Sahibabad – A Strategic Location:

The proposed metro link aims to connect Sahibabad, which is gradually becoming a strategic location due to the presence of an RRTS station and a multi-modal transit hub. With an RRTS station in Sahibabad, it is expected to become a hub for development and connection for the entire NCR.

 A Much-Needed Metro Link:

The metro link between Sector 62 and Sahibabad is a long-awaited demand of the residents. The convenience and ease that metros offer to daily commuters necessitate the need for such a link.

  1. Thanks to various departments of state Government and DMRC to initiate Metro Link Project from Noida Sector-62 to Shahibabad. It will provide best commutation from Noida to Ghaziabad and Meerut without entering Delhi. It may further prove beneficial to commuters if this line is extended to next Red Line Station at Shyam Park Or Mohan Nagar and to Blue Line at Vaishali for ease of connectivity to Delhi. It will also provide relief to decongest the Blue Line up to a great extend.
