PUNE (Metro Rail News): Pune Metro Rail Development Authority (PMRDA) will likely appoint a consultant to extend the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar line to Hadapsar-Loni Kalbhor.

Feasibility Study

The study will be conducted on the 19 km long Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor stretch to determine the feasibility of the extension project. The Study will also determine the project’s feasibility under the PPP model.

The firm appointed will also conduct a feasibility study for another 25 km long extension of the metro service from Swargate to Khadakwasla.

Specifics of Appointment

The consultant will be appointed jointly by MahaMetro & PMRDA and share the cost. The report is expected to be submitted within 60 days of the appointment.  The report will then be submitted to the state government for project implementation.

Connecting IT Hubs

This extension aims to connect the city’s two major IT Hubs, thus contributing to better connectivity and efficiency of the transit system.  It will have a very significant impact on the daily commuters as it will ease their travelling and make it economical and convenient

Pune Metro Ridership

The average daily ridership of Pune Metro recorded last month was over 50,000. It is expected to increase as the Pune metro authorities focus on stations with less footfall.
