KERALA (Metro Rail News): The Kerala Government has fastened their construction work of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod semi high-speed rail project enraged the protesters. They approached the Kerala High Court and alleged the Government was in contempt of the court case. According to the protesters, the Government has violated the orders of HC, which were issued on 29 January.

According to the HC‘s Order, no one can acquire the land without obtaining permission or clearance from the Union Ministry of Railways and Railway Boards. The Government violated the decision by creating a post of a particular deputy collector to speed up the process of land acquisition. The K-Rail is the legitimate authority of the project and is responsible for updating the progress of the railway board. Once the division of land types gets over, K-rail will start its social impact assessment.

They also stressed that once land gets measured, then the process of international funding can start. On 12 December, the hearing will be done in front of NGT. The Government informed the tribunal that environmental impact assessments are not required for the railway projects

  1. With so many changes in the way of life and work culture such as work from home, and communication revolution is making easier for conducting meetings and many more. I understand many houses/ flats are getting vacant on this account.
The high speed rail is capital intensive and what is the traffic assessment and is it viable. When the majority of people are crying for basic things of life and the disparity is glaring, and the environmental issues are staring and bringing everything to standstill now and then apart from cyclones and floods etc.
Building such hightech projects which cannot be used for other than transport and at huge cost is good for builders bussiness. But is it in the national and environmental betterment at this stage. I am keeping away from these things as there are not much takers it looks and you have your way if your conscience agrees to whatever You are doing?.
